What we do

Services

From first feasibility question through to a system your team can run without us.

  • Community-based aquaculture development

At LoTech we are committed to empowering remote and regional communities by building capacity in sustainable aquaculture. We design and implement community-based aquaculture systems, providing the tools, knowledge and ongoing support needed for local stakeholders to manage and operate their own farming ventures, boosting local food security and economic development.

  • Aquaculture design and consultancy

LoTech Aquaculture offers design and consultancy services with a focus on creating sustainable, low-technology aquaculture systems. Specialising in recirculating aquaculture systems (RAS), polyculture and integrated multi-trophic aquaculture (IMTA), we develop tailored systems that prioritise species health, water quality and efficient resource use, while considering the specific needs, culture and technology level of local communities.

  • Project management and client advocacy

From initial design to final implementation, LoTech provides comprehensive project management. We manage timelines, budgets, stakeholder communication and risk mitigation to deliver outcomes that align with both operational and community goals.

We also act as client advocates during system construction, holding standards for animal health and the operational integrity of the systems. LoTech liaises with contractors, monitors construction progress and offers recommendations that protect project timelines and the quality of systems and infrastructure.

  • Support, training and documentation

LoTech offers tailored support and training that leaves clients able to operate their aquaculture systems effectively and sustainably. We provide standard operating procedures (SOPs), equipment manuals, codes of practice and best practice guides, so clients have the knowledge and resources needed to maintain and optimise their systems.

  • Research and development

LoTech conducts applied research to develop new techniques and improve existing practice. We focus on solutions that improve sustainability, operational efficiency and the economic feasibility of aquaculture ventures. Our research and development work spans species selection, system optimisation and environmental impact reduction, contributing to the long-term viability of the industry.

  • Project feasibility studies

Before committing capital to an aquaculture venture, it pays to know whether the fundamentals work. We assess site and water suitability, realistic species options for the location and market, the scale needed to make the numbers work, and the skills and infrastructure required to operate the system once it is built.

The output is a clear picture of what is achievable, what it would cost, and where the risks sit, so you can make a go or no-go decision on evidence rather than optimism.

  • Environmental assessments and reporting

We conduct environmental research and deliver the data analysis and reporting that goes with it, whether for species impact assessment, ecological surveys or environmental compliance. The work is designed to inform sustainable practice, not just satisfy a form.

LoTech also offers a full suite of environmental services for aquaculture projects, including Species Impact Statements (SIS) and Environmental Impact Assessments (EIA). We evaluate potential risks and provide actionable recommendations, so developments can proceed on a sustainable footing while minimising impact on local ecosystems.
