LoTech Aquaculture
LoTech Aquaculture Pty Ltd was founded in the early 2000s by Graeme Dobson to provide low-technology solutions for remote and regional communities in Australia and overseas. Rooted in a philosophy of empowering communities, LoTech focuses on using science to create simple, effective aquaculture methods that can be operated by anyone.
The company takes a holistic approach, designing and implementing aquaculture ventures that increase industry access and build local capacity for long-term, sustainable success.
After a hiatus due to a family illness, LoTech is now led by Greg Dobson, Graeme's son, with Graeme taking on an advisory role. With a PhD in sustainable tropical aquaculture and over 15 years of experience in aquaculture and marine science, Greg has worked across both research and practical aquaculture applications, most notably in community-based farming systems in Vietnam.
LoTech's focus is to support communities, businesses, governments and research organisations in developing sustainable, cost-effective aquaculture systems. The aim is to make aquaculture more accessible by equipping local communities with knowledge, resources and expertise, creating scalable systems that lift productivity while protecting ecosystems.
Simple enough to run, sound enough to last
Low technology does not mean low rigour. It means designing systems around the people, skills and infrastructure that are actually available at the site, so the operation still works in year five.
That principle runs through everything: system design, the documentation we leave behind, and the training that goes with it.
